The article discusses the prospects of adult development within the paradigm of life-long learning, in particular, the role of metacognition in human activity and thinking.
The questions about the connection between metacognitive abilities and other mental functions, such as thinking and volitional sphere, are considered. The assumption that metacognition and its separate factors — metacognitive perceptions and goal-setting — can be connected with formal logical thinking is tested. Methods of correlation and qualitative analysis were used to process the data obtained from 60 teachers in Moscow. The results of the study showed the presence of links between formal logical thinking and cognitive goal-setting, as well as metacognitive representations. No relationship between formal logical thinking and situation-oriented activity was found. The conclusion is that situation-oriented activity is characterized rather by stereotypical actions and reactions, where logic is not directly involved.
