Annotation
The examination of educational policy issues is pertinent to a wide array of university courses and disciplines. This encompasses the training of managers and analysts for the education system, as well as sociologists, cultural scholars, philosophers, public relations specialists, and media literacy experts. Traditionally, instructional materials for student engagement in educational policy include reports, meeting transcripts, legislative documents, analytical reviews, and other official records. However, these resources are often insufficient to thoroughly analyze the entire field of discussions surrounding specific traditions or reforms within the education system. Conventional educational materials typically overlook informal discussions and attitudes regarding educational policy issues,
which are disseminated through social media, blogs, and other digital platforms. Frequently, it is this informal content that reveals the diversity and contradictions in attitudes toward various educational policy priorities and their dynamics. Memes shared on social media can serve as an alternative educational resource for analyzing educational policy. The authors of the paper have collected and presented their own classification of education-related memes, with examples drawn from observations over the past fifteen years. This classification reflects several fundamental contradictions in educational policy, including the overwhelming complexity of educational content, coupled with lamentations about simplification and the degradation of educational outcomes. There is a noticeable societal discontent with the increasing external administrative pressure on educational institutions and teachers. Simultaneously, however, there is concern regarding the isolation and detachment of the educational community from societal issues. Society expresses dissatisfaction with the quality of teachers’ work while simultaneously acknowledging and empathizing with the challenges
faced by educators. The authors conduct an analysis of these and other contradictions in a playful format with students in educational policy courses. It has been identified that an important change occurs in comparison to classes where only traditional didactic materials are utilized. By relying on the classification of memes, students increasingly focus not only on sector-specific interests but also on societal concerns in the realm of educational policy. Nonetheless, student interest in the perspectives of school children remains limited. This finding provides a basis for further research in this area, introducing diversity into educational materials and teaching methodologies.
