Annotation
This article studies the intensity of reading by children and youth in Moscow and the barriers limiting it. The author highlights the role of libraries as part of the reading environment. The attitude of the youth and parents of children toward Moscow libraries, the reasons for low popularity of local libraries, and the negative image of libraries as a social institution are given in the article. The article is based on the results of sociological surveys of youth and parents on children's reading, as well as focus groups that we conducted with students.
