Annotation
The article traces the dynamics of chracters' with special needs siblings' images development (a character with special needs is a character suffering from some serious/incurable disease) in children's fiction, starting from the turn of the XIX-XX centuries up to the present time. Sibling characters are studied as heroes ― companions of the protagonist who, in ac國 cordance with the author's intention, build and model the main character's habitat, which is especially significant when it comes to socially sensitive topics in children's literature.
