Annotation

The relevance of studying the evolution of the concept “mediation” is due to the fact that the problem of application of the concept “mediation” is a relevant topic for the study of various directions of humanitarian thought, and mediation technology successfully solves various social conflicts in different spheres of life, including when learning and teaching foreign languages. This article considers the emergence and evolvement of the concept of “mediation” as an important type of communicative activity in the context of foreign language learning. The relevance of developing mediation skills for students in today’s world of cultural diversity is justified, where effective interaction and understanding between representatives of different cultures are of paramount importance. The article analyses various definitions of the concept “mediation” in a few sciences related to the teaching methodology of foreign languages, as well as its relationship with the development of foreign communicative competence. The author discusses the benefits of using mediation in foreign language learning, including increasing the motivation of learners, developing their communicative and cognitive abilities, as well as preparing for real situations of intercultural interaction. The leading methods in the study of this problem were analysis, synthesis, generalization, comparison when studying scientific literature, comparative method, systematization and conceptualization of scientific ideas, generalization and interpretation of scientific data. The contributions presented in the article allow us to conclude that in the field of foreign language teaching, the concept of mediation appears in response to the challenges of the modern mobile world in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR) in 2001, and is an important part of the professional activity of a university teacher. The main discussion question of the study is the possibilities of integrating mediation with other modern pedagogical approaches.
