Annotation

The article aims to identify the existing links between honesty and other personal values as well as the style of relationships within a family where values are developed. Honesty is defined as the foundation of personal morals. Honesty as a value is manifested in behaviour and does not depend on such parameters as a person’s gender or age. The authors have studied the theoretical interpretations of the notion of honesty in foreign and Russian literature and analysed the parems of the Sakha people. The empirical survey sample consiste of 298 respondents residing in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The findings of the study demonstred that honesty correlates with such qualities as responsibility, ability to rely on oneself, tolerance, congruence and modest ambition. The study also found a close link between honesty and the type of family relationships, identifying the internal mechanisms behind the development of honesty in people, which have not yet been studied in sufficient depth. The authors have also been able to determine the style of family relations conducive to honesty becoming the foundation of a person’s morals.
