Annotation

The article presents the content of the ability to understand the emotional state as a general professional competence of a modern teacher. The authors selected and justified diagnostic tools to assess this ability. The results of an empirical study of the ability to understand the emotional state of future teachers at the stage of university education are given. Heterochronicity of development of understanding of one's emotions and understanding of emotions of other people, and also deficiency of the used means of understanding are presented.
