Annotation

This article examines the philosophical foundations of education in America. Both the history of education and the general philosophical schools applied to education are analyzed. The principal attention is paid to regional ideology during the Colonial Pe­riod, the influence on the formation of education of such thinkers as Jefferson, Franklin, Mann and Dewey. The metaphysical and epistemological postulates are also provided.
