Annotation

The relevance of the problem under study is due to the need to develop theoretical foundations and devise learning technologies for elderly people. This problem is caused by an increase in life expectancy and active participation of the older generation in various educational programs, including those aimed at mastering a foreign language. To achieve the goal of the study, which was to develop techniques and procedures for preparing older adult learners to conduct oral multicultural dialogue in a foreign language, the following tasks were set: to analyze the characteristics of elderly people as participants in the dialogue of cultures and their educational needs; to substantiate the use of the multicultural approach as a basis for the development of methodology for preparing older people for intercultural dialogue; to devise the principles of teaching older adult learners to take part in intercultural communication; to determine the purpose, the content of the training process, its techniques and procedures. The results of a comprehensive critical analysis of the relevant research papers and a survey of the participants in the Moscow Longevity project (63 respondents) made it possible to develop techniques and procedures of preparing older adult learners to conduct oral intercultural dialogue in a foreign language, based on the ideas of the multicultural approach, which contributes to the unique characteristics of the study. The research has theoretical and practical significance, which is determined by the possibility of using the obtained results of the study both when conducting foreign language classes with older adult learners, and when creating teaching aids intended for teaching this category of students. Overall, the obtained data is applicable in the course of professional teacher training and for inservice teachers of a foreign language.
