Annotation

This article examines certain aspects of the development of schooling in England during the medieval and early modern periods. The choice of the topic of education research is not accidental, as school is central in shaping young people not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but also in terms of behaviors based on the cultural values of society. The purpose of this paper is to examine the formation of pedagogical ideas and the development of the model of humanistic education using the example of the English grammar school of St. Paul’s, founded by J. Colet. When writing this paper, we used comparative historical and historical-genetic research methods. The paper presents the results of ongoing research focused on the analysis of the humanistic model of education in England during the Middle Ages and early Modern period. The author concludes that school practice in England combined both traditional medieval forms of education and elements of secular education.
