Annotation

The relevance of the problem highlighted by the author in the article is the need to understand the potential and limitations of using AI tools with educational tasks. The aim of the paper is to analyse and describe the possibilities of AI for foreign language teaching in higher education taking into account the advantages and disadvantages of available ICT tools. The theoretical significance of the work lies in the description of AI tools for classroom and autonomous language learning. The methods of the work include bibliographic analysis of publications on the research topic and an activity-based approach to the implementation of AI tools in foreign language classes during 2022–2024. Observations and systematic analysis of existing free AI tools that are available in Russia and do not require special technical skills were carried out. The experience of practical work with students of the Finance Faculty of the Finance University is described. The article presents selected AI tools that can be demanded by teachers in foreign language classes in higher education. Conclusions are drawn about the pivotal options for the application of AI in the classroom. These are creation of different kinds of materials, making assistants for skills improvement, automated testing and gamification tools.
