Annotation

The article deals with the scientific potential and creative way of becoming a scientific mentor, describes a multidimensional construct of a large-scale personality based on an interdisciplinary analysis of the life way, documentary sources and products of scientific creativity of a scientist and a mentor on the example of an outstanding historian, teacher, leader and organizer of science and higher education Viktor Vasilyevich Ryabov. Based on the analysis of scientific publications and research projects implemented under the supervision of V. V. Ryabov, the stages of the formation of a scientist, the development of his scientific potential are distinguished, his contribution to the formation of scientific schools is assessed, the evolution of the scientist`s worldview and methodological positions are studied at different stages of his scientific career. V. V. Ryabov has been working in science and education for more than 60 years, his biography is replete with outstanding events and achievements, continuous creative search and long-awaited acquisitions. Several scores of doctors of sciences and hundreds of candidates of sciences have been trained under his scientific supervision and with his assistance. Over the years, unique personal and professional qualities, methodological approaches and principles of a scientist and a scientific mentor, which have resulted in success, have been formed. The article reveals the essential features, corporate identity and secrets of success of a model scientific mentor.
